Tony Simmons, Executive Director at High School for Recording Arts, talks about the importance of educators being dynamic and open minded and willing to learn alongside the students.
It’s dynamic, it’s kinetic, it’s chaotic, it’s exactly how you might imagine it being when you unleash the freedom, the constraints to foster freedom with young people who are already full of energy and ideas. But you also have highly passionate, committed educators working in that midst, helping understand who our young people are, connecting to their passions and interests, understanding what the goal is that’s trying to be accomplished, and helping guide that process with them and being a part of it.
So it’s like I said, it’s dynamic. It’s not unlike what I see when I walk through Hi-Tech High halls, and young people. Culturally, it may be a little different, As you might imagine, it may take on a different flavor, but it’s still the same things are going on– young people, problem solving, learning, learning together, and trying to accomplish a goal.
