Anjel Newmann is a Black multiethnic artist, educator, and anti-racist organizer from Rhode Island. Leveraging values of Hip Hop, Emergent Strategy + a range of various disciplines + philosophies, at its root, Anjel’s work is about co-creating spaces that center those most impacted by systems of oppression, to reimagine and design a future that is as magical as it is just, ripe with possibility and wonder. Anjel specializes in using principles of design to support organizations to transform into antiracist institutions. Currently, Anjel serves as AS220’s Co-Executive Director. Additionally, Anjel teaches Liberatory Design, Emergent Strategy, and Arts + Organizing classes for local colleges and universities. She also serves on various boards, steering committees, and organizing bodies throughout Providence with the goal of bringing different people together to collaborate in new and meaningful ways.
